About the Storage Challenge

The hotel is currently provided with approx 75% of its electrical power annually by a 220kW Kaplan turbine. The spa & pool pumps, along with the kitchen, count as the most energy heavy loads on the system and are active from 7am through to 10pm.

Currently, plans are under way to install 450kW water sourced heat pumps on the tail race of the turbine to provide the hot water needed instead of using gas.

Energy storage would allow The Falls Hotel to enhance its self-consumption and provide grid services. The Falls hotel aims to become completely energy self-sufficient.
